Laser: which questions to ask

“Laser” is not a treatment indication but a broad family of light-based devices. The specific device determines almost everything.

A broad family of devices

Some lasers aim at a pigment, others at a vessel, others still at texture. In the practice, the confirmed devices include the DuoGlide CO2 laser, the ProDeep 1340 nm, the Clarity II (Alexandrite and Nd:YAG) and IPL. Recovery ranges from an evening of redness to several days of healing.

Five questions are enough

What is the target in my skin? Which device is proposed? What downtime should I actually plan? What happens if I tan before or after? Is there a more suitable alternative?

An answer that begins with comfort (“it is very gentle”) and never reaches the name of the laser is not complete.

Safety is in the detail

Eye protection, the state of a tan, photosensitising medicines and skin tone are part of the assessment before the procedure. A mark may also require a diagnosis before any aesthetic treatment.
