Skinboosters

Micro-injections of hyaluronic acid to improve hydration, radiance and suppleness without changing facial shape.

What is the treatment for?

The aim is to improve skin quality when the skin feels tight, lacks suppleness or radiance, or has developed an uneven texture. Hyaluronic acid holds water in the skin, which may give it a more hydrated and luminous appearance.

A skinbooster does not replace a peel or treatment for pigmentation, and it does not fill a deep hollow. When loss of volume is the main concern, a different gel may be more appropriate: this is the essential distinction from a volumising filler.

It shares its logic with mesotherapy (dedicated page): superficial micro-injections. What changes is the content injected, decided in consultation.

Who is it for?

For someone who seeks a discreet change, often described as skin that feels more comfortable and luminous, and who accepts that several sessions may sometimes be needed. It may suit skin that is dehydrated, dull, or losing suppleness.

Infected, irritated or recently damaged skin should not be treated. Pregnancy, certain illnesses and some medicines require prior discussion. The physician may also conclude that topical skincare is sufficient.

Areas concerned

The area should match a real indication, clarified in consultation. Extending the treatment “since we are there” has no benefit.

  • Face: cheeks, forehead, eye contour depending on the examination.
  • Neck: thin skin, often marked by dehydration.
  • Décolletage: sun-exposed skin, where texture shows.
  • Hands: thin, dry-looking skin, when treatment is considered appropriate after examination.

How a session generally unfolds

After the skin has been examined, the area is cleaned and disinfected. A numbing cream may be applied depending on the area. The product is placed at many superficial points, with a fine needle or a suitable technique.

Small papules or a grid pattern may be visible immediately afterwards, often because of the product deposits themselves; these marks fade. The session is generally brief.

There is no standard number of sessions. A short initial course followed by possible maintenance is often discussed, depending on the condition of the skin and its response.

What kind of result

The intended effect is at skin level: improved hydration, suppleness and radiance. It is deliberately subtle and usually gradual. Skinboosters are not suitable for someone seeking a more defined jawline or fuller lips.

The response varies. Improvement may be clear in one person and subtle in another; this does not mean that more product should automatically be used.

How it changes over time

Hyaluronic acid is resorbed. Maintenance, if useful, is decided after seeing how long the effect lasts in this person.

Injection marks may be visible for the first few days. The appearance of the skin is assessed later, once it has settled.

Possible after-effects

Redness, small bumps at the injection points, tenderness or slight bruising are the most common after-effects, for a few hours to a few days. Make-up may be discouraged for a short time.

Any worsening reaction, abnormal pain or unexpected change in the skin should be reported. The use of multiple injection points does not make this any less of a medical procedure.

General precautions

It is preferable to come without active irritation, without recent intense tanning if the skin is fragile, and having mentioned cosmetic treatments in the previous weeks, anticoagulants and any history of cold sores.

After the session, you may be advised to avoid direct sun, strong heat (sauna or steam room), intense exercise and irritating products for a short period. Specific advice depends on the skin and area treated.

Questions

Does a skinbooster make the face swell?

That is not its purpose. The product is chosen and placed for skin quality. A transient swelling may occur at the start. A lasting change of volume would rather point to another indication, or an unsuitable product.

What is the difference from mesotherapy?

Both rely on superficial micro-injections. Skinboosters use hyaluronic acid chosen for hydration. Mesotherapy may use other compositions, which are named before the session. Each has its own page.

Is a single session enough?

Sometimes one session is enough to assess the response. Skin quality is often addressed over several stages, with the timing decided according to how the skin responds.

Other treatments

Hyaluronic acid Resorbable hyaluronic acid gels to restore volume, soften a fold or define a facial contour, when there is a clear indication. Mesotherapy Multiple superficial injections to improve skin quality, including radiance, hydration and texture; the formulation is decided during consultation. Skinboosters: why they are considered Their role is defined as much by what they do not do: skinboosters do not sculpt the face, but focus on skin hydration and quality.
